MiniNail Silicon Carbide Nail Instructions & Assembly

The Silicon Carbide Universal Nail pairs a Grade 2 titanium body with a silicon carbide deep dish. It assembles in three steps, same as every MiniNail hybrid nail.

How to assemble your Silicon Carbide Nail

  1. Pick your adapter and attach it to the heat shield. Both adapters ship in the box, male and female, each covering 14mm to 18mm. That is four fitments on one nail. Running a 10mm rig? You need the 10mm Hybrid Nail Adapter, sold separately.
  2. Fit your coil. The standard silicon carbide nail uses a 25mm dish, which runs under the Hybrid Heater Coil. The 30mm XL Silicon Carbide Nail needs the XL Hybrid Heater Coil instead.
  3. Attach the dish with the titanium screw. Fit the Silicon Carbide Deep Dish using the screw and heat spacer. Silicon carbide is dense and hard, but it is still ceramic, so tighten it snug rather than forcing it.

Running it

  • Recommended range is 500 to 600°F. Give the nail a few minutes to come up before the first dab of the session. Silicon carbide takes heat off the coil and holds onto it through the dab.
  • Swab the dish while it is still warm. Silicon carbide is smooth at a microscopic level, so residue sits on the surface instead of working into it. A swab takes it back to clean. There is no coating on it, so there is nothing to wear off or scratch through.
  • Re-check the screw every few sessions. Heat cycling works hardware loose, and a snug screw is what keeps heat moving from the body into the dish.
  • Swap dishes cold. Never unscrew a hot nail.

Change the dish, keep the nail

Every MiniNail hybrid nail is built on the same body, so this one is not locked to silicon carbide. It also runs a Quartz Deep Dish or a Titanium Deep Dish. Chip a dish and you replace the dish, not the nail.

Match the dish to your coil. Staying inside one size costs you a dish. Crossing between 25mm and 30mm costs a dish and a coil.
